It’s hard to believe that August is just around the corner. Soon, the city will experience a natural dwindle in tourism, and students will be doing their best to get back to the daily grind, thereby effectively signaling the end of the summer season and reinstating the chokehold of Lowcountry traffic jams. I’m doing everything I can with the remaining weeks: I hosted a fundraising event for Monachopsis at Dandy Boutique (pics to come soon!), and I’m also taking a mini-vacation to New York City next weekend to see my best friend. To say I’m trying to squeeze in as much summer fun as possible before the weather turns colder is an understatement.
In a stark contrast to the dark winter months, summertime is when my style truly comes to life. There are so many bright colors, flattering cuts, and bold patterns that I can add to my wardrobe, I always feel so incredibly inspired as I’m browsing the racks at local stores. Because of the scalding weather, this season continues to teach me an important lesson in creativity year after year: How can I wear less yet still look put together?
For me, what I wear in summer is sometimes dictated by current fashion trends (this year: woven bags and statement sandals), but one of my wardrobe staples is the classic minidress. When I saw this 60s-inspired Daisy Do Mini Dress in Dandy’s newest lookbook, I knew immediately that I wanted to keep the look minimal and polished with a simple updo, reminiscent of yeye style icons like Sylvie Vartan and France Gall.
